Keep the following information in mind when planning your trip to Colombiatex of the Americas 2017:

  • Medellin features a tropical climate, with temperatures constantly ranging between 18 and 20º C (64 – 82° F). Temperatures descend slightly at night. Throughout the day you may experience radical changes in the weather, including heavy rains or blazing sunshine.
  • Medellin’s running water undergoes all necessary treatments and is safe to drink straight from the tap.
  • As a safety measure, we advise that you store valuable belongings in your hotel safe and that you carry a copy of your passport or other ID with you.
  • Medellin offers a comprehensive public transportation system. The Metro and Metro Cable will allow you to move around town and discover the landmarks of the “City of Eternal Spring.”

ATMs and Currency Exchange

The local currency is the Colombian Peso (COP). Banknotes are issued in denominations of 1,000, 2,000, 5,000, 10,000, 20,000, 50,000 and 100,000 pesos. Coins are issued in denominations of 50, 100, 200, 500 and 1,000 pesos.

Currency Exchange services are offered at the Wooden Box at Plaza Mayor. A dollar (US$ 1) equals approximately COP$ 3,000.

Most commercial establishments take credit cards and salespeople will inquire as to the number of installments in which you wish to make your payment.

If you need to withdraw money, you can use the Bancolombia ATMs in the Service Hall at Plaza Mayor.

Local banks are open from Monday to Friday, from 8:00 a.m. till noon and from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Internet Connection

Plaza Mayor will feature several open Wi-Fi networks that you can access from within the fairgrounds.

When outside the fairgrounds, many stores and restaurants offer free Wi-Fi service for mobile devices upon request. Hotels will usually provide this service for a fee.


Medellin’s integrated transport system includes Buses de Medellín, Metro Plus, Metro and Metro Cable. We recommend using this system for getting around in the city, and to and from the Trade Show.

Getting to the Trade Show

By Metro

The Metro is a quick, safe and effective transportation method. The Metro system comprises two main lines that cross the city length- and widthwise and allow you to visit the main tourist attractions.

he two metro stations closest to Plaza Mayor are “Exposiciones” and “Alpujarra.”

  • Each metro ticket is COP$ 2,150.
  • Service runs from Monday to Saturday, from 4:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.


Bus tickets range between COP$ 1,900 and $2,000.

Bus Line 190 Poblado – Laureles will take you to Plaza Mayor.

Tip: Carry loose change with you for purchasing bus tickets as high-denomination bills are often not accepted.


All Taxis have an integrated meter that displays the total to be paid for the trip. The minimum fare is COP$ 4,600, but the meter will start running at $2,700.

Trips to or from the airport are a flat rate of $60,000.

Plaza Mayor offers 730 parking spaces distributed in different zones for each of the grounds. Parking lots are open to the public and the parking rate is COP$ 2,400 per hour.

Please remember that close to 8,000 people attend the trade show each day. We recommend using public transportation as parking lots are likely to be full.
